Car, Truck and Tractor Trailer Accident and Injury Resources

Practice Area photoCobb County was created in 1832 by the Georgia state legislature. Cobb was carved out of the massive Cherokee County that was acquired from the Creek and Cherokee Indians and redistributed to Georgia residents via lottery. Cobb County is named in honor of Thomas Willis Cobb who was a Georgia legislator and Senator in the early 19th century. The county seat of Cobb County is Marietta. Marietta is named for Thomas Cobb's wife, Mary Moore Cobb.

Cobb County is located in the northern, central part of the state of Georgia and is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Georgia, metropolitan statistical area. The estimated population of Cobb County is about 700,000, making it the third or fourth most populous county in Georgia. Cobb is one of the wealthiest counties in the state and is consistently listed among the 100 wealthiest counties in the United States. Cobb also has the distinction as having the most educated populace in Georgia.

Cobb County is home to many municipalities that serve as suburbs for the city of Atlanta. Some of these municipalities and other neighborhoods of Cobb include: Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Mabelton, Marietta, Powder Springs, Smyrna and Vinings.

Cobb County is home to many well-known business entities, including: The Weather Channel, The Home Depot, Lockheed Martin, Genuine Parts, Glock and Cobb Energy. Some major Cobb County landmarks include the Big Chicken, Dobbins Air Force Base, Kennesaw Mountain, Six Flags, White Water Amusement Park, Lake Allatoona, Lake Acworth, the Chattahoochee River Recreational Area and the Silver Comet Trail. The Silver Comet Trail is a recreational running, hiking and biking trail that runs through Western Georgia all the way to Anniston, Alabama.

The major highways traversing Cobb County include the following: Interstate 20, Interstate 85, Interstate 285, Interstate 575, U.S. Route 23, U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 78, U.S. Route 278, State Route 3, State Route 5, State Route 6, State Route 8, State Route 92, State Route 120, State Route176, State Route 280, and State Route 360.

Because of Cobb's urban and suburban settings and the large number of major interstates, highways and surface streets, Cobb County residents are susceptible to being victims in tractor trailer accidents and auto accidents. As such, Cobb County cities and unincorporated areas can be dangerous for drivers. Moreover, the proximity of Lake Allatoona results in Cobb having some of the highest numbers of boating accidents of any county in Georgia. DUI boaters are a big problem at Allatoona, the Chattahoochee River and other Cobb County waterways.
