Five-Vehicle Crash in Gwinnett County Leaves Horse Dead, Several Drivers Shaken

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – July 17, 2025 — A chaotic multi-car accident involving a horse trailer on I-85 in Gwinnett County caused serious traffic delays Thursday morning and resulted in the death of a horse being transported.

The five-vehicle pileup happened just before 6:30 a.m. near the northbound ramp to Pleasant Hill Road. According to officials, a trailer carrying two horses overturned during the crash, ejecting both animals onto the roadway.

One horse died at the scene. The other was severely injured and later euthanized. Fortunately, no human fatalities have been reported, though multiple drivers were evaluated for minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether any citations or charges are expected.

A Tragic and Disturbing Scene

“This is an incredibly distressing situation—not just because of the tragic loss of the animals, but because it reflects how dangerous and unpredictable our roads can be,” said attorney Charles Scholle, founder of Scholle Law. “We’ve represented clients in complex multi-vehicle accidents like this, and we know how overwhelming the aftermath can be.”

Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Lead to Serious Legal Complexity

Accidents involving three or more vehicles often lead to disputes over who was at fault. In some cases, several drivers may share partial responsibility, which can complicate both insurance claims and legal recovery. Victims may be entitled to pursue claims for:

  • Medical bills and emergency room care

  • Vehicle damage or total loss

  • Lost wages due to missed work

  • Pain and suffering from physical and emotional trauma

“When multiple vehicles are involved, it’s even more critical to have experienced legal representation,” Scholle added. “Insurance companies will often try to shift blame or minimize payouts. Our job is to make sure injured victims are protected and fully compensated. We must investigate thoroughly before evidence disappears or blame is shifted. The insurance company will be building its case. So should you.”

What To Do After a Multi-Car Accident

If you’re involved in a pileup or multi-vehicle crash, here’s what you should do:

  • Call 911 and report the accident immediately

  • Seek medical attention, even if injuries seem minor

  • Document the scene with photos or video if it’s safe to do so

  • Avoid making statements to other drivers or insurers

  • Get legal guidance before discussing fault or accepting any settlement
