What Is a Disc?

Defined here by Spine-Health.com, a disc is the soft pad positioned in between each of a person’s vertebrae of the spine. The spine includes the back and neck. The vertebral disc acts as a spacer, shock absorber, and part of the cartilaginous joints that allow movement in the spine.

Additionally the site indicates that a disc can withstand compression, pressure and stress. It does so while allowing for movement. It also gives us flexibility. Intervertebral discs are made up of two parts: the tough outer part (annulus fibrosus) and the soft inner core (nucleus pulposus).

The annulus fibrosus and the nucleus pulposus fit together. They are described as being like two concentric cylinders and the configuration can be described as like a jelly doughnut. There are a total of twenty-three vertebral discs in the spinal column.

What Is a Herniated Disc?

A herniated disc, can also be called a slipped disc or a ruptured disc. Defined here by the American Associated of Neurological Surgeons, a herniated disc is a fragment of the disc nucleus that is pushed out of the annulus, into the spinal canal through a tear or rupture in the annulus.

Herniated discs usually occur once a disc has began to degenerate. The website also indicated that the spinal canal has limited space, which is not enough room for the spinal nerve and the displaced herniated disc fragment. Due to this displacement, the disc sits against spinal nerves, often causing serious pain.

Herniated discs can occur in any part of the spine which includes the neck and the back. Herniated discs are thought to be more common in the lower back (lumbar spine), but also do occur up higher in the neck (cervical spine). The area of where pain is felt depends on what part of the spine is experiencing the herniation.

Can an Atlanta Herniated Disc Lawyer Help?

Living without pain is underappreciated until you have experienced. This is especially true of significant neck and back pain which can include herniated discus. When this type of pain is present, being able to live and work is significantly compromised. Besides the misery of the pain there is the expense of dealing with it. Minor back pain that is treated with chiropractic or orthopedic treatment can cost a lot of money.   When we discuss very serious back and neck injuries involving herniations, this includes not only significant medical bills but also substantial lost wages and the potential need for future medical care including additional surgeries, hospitalizations, or in-patient or out-patient rehabilitation.  In the worst cases this can even mean becoming disabled and being unable to work.

When someone else caused a situation that resulted in a very serious back or neck injury, our Atlanta, Georgia disc injury attorneys can help find out to what extent an injured party is entitled to compensation.  Compensation also known as compensable damages include but are not limited to these examples: compensation for being unable to work, medical bills from the emergency room, ambulance, hospital stay, orthopedist, MRI, chiropractor, pain and suffering and other non-economic and economic damages.  It does not matter if it is from a bad car or work accident in Atlanta or a big truck accident that occurred near Macon, our Georgia injury attorneys always fight hard for the justice that disc injury victims are entitled to.

Even though the laws in Georgia provide for damages, getting it from a negligent person or their insurance company is still difficult. Most cases involving motor vehicle accidents, work accidents or premises cases defended by insurance company defense lawyers. They work for the big insurance companies and they fight hard for them. Even in cases without any liability issues, you can never expect an insurance company lawyer or adjuster to offer to resolve the case for what is fair.  It is their job to make sure that the insurance company keeps as much money as it can. It is our job to make sure that you get the most favorable amount of compensation that we can.

Our skilled Atlanta accident attorneys and Atlanta herniated disc lawyers have years of experience in fighting the big insurance companies and their unlimited resources they use for defending their insureds. We aggressively fight insurance companies at every turn in the process. Our firm’s two-plus decades of representation and has helped clients recover millions of dollars in insurance claims and personal injury lawsuits.

Representation For Disc Herniation Injuries

No two car accidents or other injury cases are the same.  When our firm gets a new injury case, we will investigate the matter to make sure we can create a thorough theory of negligence. Through a pre-litigation settlement or the possibility of going to court and filing a lawsuit, an Atlanta herniated disc attorney at Scholle Law will make sure to pursue compensation from all potential avenues.

What About My Own Potential Negligence?

In the cases involving allegations that our own clients were negligent and partly or wholly responsible for their own injuries, we will aggressively counter with evidence, facts, science and in some cases even testimony from experts such as doctors and surgeons.
